As the leading provider of comprehensive waste management and environmental solutions in North America, Waste Management not only works to pick up today’s trash and recycling, but is helping to build a more environmentally sound and sustainable future as well. Over the next 10 years, Waste Management’s Sustainability Goal is to reduce emissions and increase efficiency of our fleet by 15 percent. Today, we have more than 32,000 vehicles including more than 2,000 natural-gas-powered trucks.
- Natural gas reduces diesel use by an average of 8,000 gallons per truck per year.
- Cuts annual greenhouse gas emissions by 22 metric tons.
- Reduces 80% carbon monoxide and 25% carbon dioxide emissions.
We plan to bring Compressed Natural Gas trucks to Brevard County by 2014, and over the next few years, convert all collection equipment servicing Brevard municipalities to CNG. In addition, a CNG Clean N’ Green Fueling Station will be constructed at our Melbourne and Cocoa facilities to ensure a ready supply of the fuel for our fleet. The new fueling stations will also make CNG available to commercial fleets—transit agencies, school districts, taxis, cities, and municipalities—as well as corporate CNG-equipped vehicles.
